Lorene

Mom and I went to a yard sale at Lorene's home this morning. Rene and I have been corresponding via email for the past few months and when she told me she was going to have a yard sale, I asked her to let me know and she did. So I picked up Mom and off we went.

This is Lorene & Bill's home ... isn't it beautiful? I so love the front porch with the swing. This home speaks "Welcome" and we were indeed made to feel that way.

This is Lorene & Bill's side yard. They live on almost an acre of land ... truly a country home in the city.

Another view of the side yard. Lorene & Bill's son Tony made the arbor for her for Mother's Day.
As Rene told us about all her flowers I thought this should be named the
Giving Garden.
She named each plant and the person who gave them to her.
The shed is decorated with the window frame that was in Aunt Brina's home in Kentucky. Rene said that when Aunt Brina had new windows put in, she told her she wanted the frame from the old one. She said she wasn't sure what she would do with, but she brought it home and it sat stored in the shed for a couple of years until the idea came to her to put it on the shed. It's a gentle reminder of her Mom and her home in Kentucky. What an excellent way to re-purpose something!

If you look closely you'll see Bill sitting on the back porch. Everywhere you look, there's a comfortable and cozy place to sit in their yard.

Lorene is a special lady. I remember envying her when she came to live with us after she got out of school. She was the most beautiful young woman I had ever seen ... and she was nice too.
She still is. Rene & Bill have worked hard for all they have and it shows in the care they give their home, their children, their grandchildren, friends and neighbors. I realized today that I need to make the time to visit her way more often than I have. As Mom and I were leaving I told Rene I'd be back and we could sit on that front porch swing and talk. That's what swings are families are for.
